Initiated by Shinnyo-en, a Buddhist denomination originally established in Japan, a Prayer for World Peace was held on September 14, together with Andean faith leaders, Christian priests, civic leaders and local musicians, at Saksaywaman in Cusco, Peru. Saksaywaman, an ancient site included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is a walled complex on the northern outskirts of the city of Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire.

The Prayer for World Peace included a special fire ceremony officiated by Her Holiness Shinso Ito.
