PROJECT

Architecture, memory and preservation through an exploration of cinemas

Exploration of five defunct cinemas, which played pivotal roles from the 1950s to the 1980s. These cinemas served as vital hubs for creation and consumption, nurturing filmmakers, film professionals, and audiences while significantly leaving a lasting imprint on Uganda's social fabric and architectural landscape.  Central to our approach is the concept of a living archive, which acknowledges the enduring relevance of these cinemas' memories. By considering built heritage as a living archive, we will create a digital repository to preserve the intangible heritage of these spaces within today's urban environment.
