Mixed Ability Dance Project in Siaya
A unique, multi-disciplinary residency in Siaya was held in 2023 that merged traditional and contemporary dance with dramaturgy, involving artists with and without disabilities. Collaborating with Nairobi artists, the residency created a community dance-theatre performance exploring gender myths in Siaya county's public spaces.
The project included site visits for inspiration, studio work, performance creation, and public outreach, that fostered a cultural exchange between Siaya-based and Nairobi-based artists while challenging patriarchal narratives.
