Community members learning about womens’ health

TICAH organized and had 60 training of trainers’ activities in Nyanza (Homabay, Kisii, Migori and Mbita counties), Rift Valley (Eldoret and Iten counties) and Central (Kirinyaga, Muranga and Meru counties).

The training focused on reduction of maternal mortality. We started with values clarification exercises making sure that we discussed different believes and misconceptions of the participants.

Various topics were covered, including; menstruation, contraceptives, Kenyan law on abortion, use of Misoprostol for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage, use of misoprostol for safe abortion and ways in which communities can work together in saving women’s lives.

The participants were representative’s of different groups in the community. They showed signs of attitude change from the values clarification exercise, gaining of knowledge as seen from the pre and post test and they seemed determined to go and make a change in their various communities.

Different activities were listed on how they would undertake passing the information in their communities. These activities are expected to go on till the end of the year.
