About the Illness

Women normally have a cycle that means they start their periods (bleeding) every 28 days or so, and then bleed for between 3 to 6 days, although this varies quite a bit between women.
Many women experience some pain before and during their periods, particularly pain in the lower back and stomach cramps. During your period take care to keep clean, get enough sleep and eat a well-balanced diet. You can eat everything you normally eat and continue to do your normal work.

Common Symptoms

Irregular periods can be symptoms of problems such as anaemia or malnutrition;  either extreme pain or unusually heavy bleeding can mean you have a more serious illness which should be checked by a health professional; bad smelling periods may be a sign of STD infection.

Children's Issues

Most girls start menstruating ("periods") between the ages of 11 and 16.
This means they are now old enough to become pregnant. Girls' bodies do not reach full physical maturity until the age of around 20-23. Even though they can conceive a child before this age,  it is best for girls to put off having children until they are fully physically developed so as to prevent complications during pregnancy and birth.
