Family Budgets

Helping families make better choices

Many of the households we work with do not have enough money to meet their basic necessities.  Some households are headed by children; others have taken in orphaned relatives so one or two income-earners support many dependents.

Once trust is created within a support group, discussions turn to money and how to feed their families while also paying rent, school fees, water, medical costs, and other essentials.

TICAH staff facilitate these discussions, helping the group explore ways they might better manage or increase the assets they have.  Sometimes this has meant earning a little income from the herbal ointments they make, but more often it means finding ways to save, plan ahead, or combine funds.

We demonstrate a range of meals that can be cooked with limited amounts of money.  We talk about breakfast, lunch, and dinner so that all members of our households can eat as well as possible.
